Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

Use your own platelets to regenerate tissue naturally; this is the precursor to stem-cell therapy. In the past 20 years, the discovery of activated blood platelets that release healing proteins or growth factors has continued to expand. Learn more about this safe and unique process of increasing the baseline concentration of these platelets, yielding a powerful cocktail of growth factors and how to take advantage of them both aesthetically and orthopedically.

Imagine regenerating your body with your own chemistry and cells – no drugs, no artificial products. Case studies show consistent results with skin texture and tone improvement within three weeks. See amazing results within 4-6 weeks; discover the all natural autologous tissue regeneration. Your skin will positively glow!

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is the next generation approach appealing to people seeking a natural method to combat the aging process. This is regeneration with your own cells and more specifically, autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an aesthetic practice, which is a safe and tolerable procedure. Platelet Rich Plasma is 100% biocompatible and safe. It poses absolutely no infectious risk to the patient because it uses the patient’s own plasma.

PRP Skin Regeneration Therapy, a type of regenerative medicine with the patient’s own blood, uses components called platelets in the blood to rejuvenate the skin. Based on an innate wound-healing ability, the therapy is performed by injecting components collected from the blood. Platelets contain substances called growth factors that activate and rejuvenate cells in the body. The growth factors, when released, induce the production of collagen and generation of new capillaries to rejuvenate the skin.

Platelets play an important role in wound healing. They provide initial Hemostasis and release mediators to help modulate the inflammatory response and many of the cellular functions involved in healing of a wound. Contained in the alpha granules of platelets are multiple growth factors. Growth factors are proteins that impart particular biochemical messages to specific target cells through precise membrane receptors. Growth factors possess paracrine related properties which are stimulatory for mitogenic activities, cellular differentiation, protein transcription, chemotaxis, angiogenesis, and collagenase activities.

The entire process and injection time is simple and takes approximately 1 hour in total. Prior to treatment a blood sample of approximately 20mL is extracted from the patient. This blood is mixed with an anti-coagulant and then placed in a specific centrifuge for up to 8 minutes. When centrifugation is complete your plasma will be separated from your red blood cells. The rich platelets are harvested in a separate syringe along with the Buffy Coat and injected into the targeted treatment area via various techniques under topical local anesthesia. The forehead, periorbital region, cheeks, chin and dorsum of the hands, are the targets of aging and wrinkles, for rejuvenation. Platelets will gradually increase the amount of collagen produced which can increase skin thickness and overall health of the tissue. PRP facial rejuvenation can be a single treatment, but further microinjections can be performed at 4 week intervals for lines and wrinkles if the patient desires.

Results are visible at 3 weeks and improve gradually over ensuing months with improvement in texture and tone. Further plasma treatment is also popular and safe. The number of treatments will depend upon the health and age of your skin and your desired outcome. Normally, it is advised to have 2 – 3 treatments 8 weeks apart. However, our doctor will determine your treatment protocol according to your objectives. In most patients the results last up to 18 months. Repeat treatments will maintain the results.

How it Works
When PRP is injected into the targeted treatment area it initiates mild inflammation which in turn starts a healing process. The platelets then release a large number of enzymes to promote the growth and tissue regeneration including the attraction of stem cells to repair the damaged section. New collagen then starts to develop; as it matures it starts to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the area. Over time the treated area continues to improve as the tissue grows and the cells regenerate.

Side Effects and Complications
Like any treatment there are risks however PRP has proven to have far less risks associated with its implementation. You can have pain at the injection site, bleeding, bruising or a potential infection. There is a slight possibility of an allergic reaction to the solution; there is slight risk of injury to a nerve or muscle, itching or redness at the injection site, nausea, dizziness or basic discomfort.

There is a necessary recovery period to anticipate after you receive a PRP injection. This involves swelling and possible bruising due to the inflammatory response caused by PRP. You can expect the swelling to go down in about 3 days to a week. You can minimize these effects by applying cold compresses, arnica cream, and keeping your head elevated. You can expect to see noticeable changes within 3 to 4 weeks following treatment. Softening of the lines and wrinkles, volume added to deflated areas, and a fuller, more toned looking complexion can result. You may continue to see improvements for up to one year. Some may need two to three treatments to achieve optimal results, however many times, only one is necessary.
